30 years ago, I was studying for my university exams at the end of my freshman year at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. Also 30 years ago, Fugazi was touring in Europe from May to July, and they made a stop in Leuven too. The band's sound engineers recorded almost all of the live shows they ever performed, including the one in the Lido I attended way back then! With a recommended price of USD 5, but if that's more than you can afford it can go down to as little as USD 1, any of these shows can be downloaded thanks to the Fugazi Live Series project.
As of today, a bit over 10 years after completing the series, these recordings are also being made available on streaming services and Bandcamp owing to the work of Dischord Records, the label co-founded by Ian MacKaye, frontman of Fugazi. (Ian MacKaye also coined the term straight edge in a Minor Threat song titled that way.)
I've always had fond memories of this concert, and remember walking in the city during the ensuing summer of 1995, which, possibly related, saw me having to re-take some of the exams I flunked in June that year, wearing the green long-sleeved tour T-shirt I picked up that evening. Listening to the live recording transports me back in time. If you're into post-hardcore, I recommend to give the series a listen!
